Airbus Selects Mobile
Team Mobile, a group of economic development stakeholders, has announced Mobile will be the only site in the western hemisphere assembling Airbus aircraft. The company will invest $600 million at the Brookley Aeroplex to assemble the A319, A320 and A321 aircraft. Airbus, which expects to create 1,000 jobs with the project, will begin construction in the summer of 2013, with assembly scheduled to begin in 2015. The facility is expected to produce between 40 and 50 aircraft per year by 2018. The project will feature a final assembly line where parts from around the world will be delivered for assembly; and a delivery center, similar to a showroom, where assembled planes will be delivered to customers.
